I have the older cd soundtrack release which I had bought online. I was wondering the same thing. If the standard layer of the new release has a better sound quality. I just love the score of this movie. It really lends such emotion and the Climbing the Down track always gives me chills. YOU CAN SEE THE WHOLE WORLD!
The sound quality is not a night and day difference between the cd releases.  If you aren't listening for it, you won't notice it, plain and simple.  The original cd release wasn't terrible, aside from some tape hiss if you have really good headphones.

And you need special players for SACDs, and honestly I thought SACD was dead, so good luck finding a player for cheap.
