What would you want (or rather, hear) in the new miniseries?

It appears that this guy Iain Cooke is working as a music supervisor for the miniseries.

And in case anyone is wondering about a new version of Bright Eyes, here is what Mike Batt has to say about it...

I doubt it. I expect they'll want a new composer and a new approach. Wld be happy to talk with them however.

I would love it if they would use the song "Watership Down" by America this time around.

It was originally going to be used in the 1978 version but they decided on Bright Eyes.

I love the song, it has its emotional harmonies especially at the end.

And the repeating lyrics of "I can feel there's better days, well they're comin' they're comin' and I can see them through the haze so can you" is very uplifting when you're feeling sad.

I hope the miniseries won't have any magic, and will use the book's original ending with the dog run instead :duster

The IMDb page for the miniseries has added a new music producer: Stephen McLaughlin.

He has worked on several Oscar-nominated films and won a Grammy.  Hopefully his work on WD will be great...

It would be very difficult to overcome the previous version. The most likely thing is that we have new surprises, I suppose, in the matter of music.
I love Watership Down!

Everything is fine =) (?)

The composer of the miniseries' music has been officially announced: Ilan Eshkeri.

I assume this means no "Bright Eyes"..

I never heard of him before, but after hearing some songs of him on Spotify, I must say his work is pretty good. Especially his last work "The Exception" OST. He might have potential to make a great soundtrack for the miniseries.

As for Bright Eyes, I still hope there might come an adaption. I mean, this song is more than 30 years old, so there shouldn't be any copyright problems, depending on who is the rightholder at this moment, maybe BBC even bought a licence, that would be so awesome.
The whole project seems more and more promising, the more details we get to know. Hopefully it won't get delayed again. >//<

Mike Batt still has the copyright by law.

If they want to use Bright Eyes for the miniseries they would have to ask him for permission.

I would love a fresh new complete theme song.
And an interpretation of Bright Eyes would be a nice nod, like a soft instrumental piece e.g. piano.
"People’s souls are like gardens. You can’t turn your back on someone because his garden’s full of weeds. You have to give him water and lots of sunshine."

Alternatively, they replace Bright Eyes with 1 minute of random piano smashing and screaming because that's the whole mood of the story

But it is a shame that Bright Eyes probably won't be used. It is such an iconic part of the Watership Down history. Soft relaxing piano instrumentals of it would sound so nice because honestly it would reflect the, like, super relaxing atmosphere the book and movie, and now hopefully the miniseries, gave off.

They could do that thing (I don't know what the music words are my music friend tried explaining and I was so lost) where they take the melody and like, overlay other newer tunes so you get that perfect blend of "wow this is poppin" and "holy moly this sounds familiar". They did it in the new Jurassic World film in some spots, for clarification for what I meant lmao

No bright eyes... No life

Cant have Watership down with out it's theme song.

Do you think they will bother with an opening since it's such a short series?

Even though it's only four episodes they probably will still have some kind of opening in the first episode

I do hope Bright Eyes gets into the miniseries in some way, instrumental or that way florapaw mentioned (I know what you mean but I also don't know the correct term. They do that a lot in game music).

WSD without any Bright Eyes is like Okami with no Reset.
Something would be missing.
