I have to agree with Flora.  Silver really is a useful rabbit in the original book, proving his worth on several occasions.  But unfortunately, in the film, he had little character development, like several other characters, and I'm not very satisfied with his character design.

In the 1978 movie at least, he was pretty droll...again it's hard to do a lot of deeper character development in animation sometimes, I suppose...he was sort of boring in the movie and like an old rabbit of sorts.

I guess you're right Hyzenthlay...

The film's limited running time prevented some minor characters, like Silver, Pipkin and Dandelion, from getting significant character development.  Others, such as Hazel, Bigwig, Hyzenthlay, Blackberry and Kehaar, get more elaborate personalities.

(and to make things worse, Silver has been left out from the 1999 series, and it seems he will not appear in the miniseries either :( )

He is not listed in the IMDb voice cast :( Neither is Pipkin.  However, we do get Hawkbit again...

Wow, I really need to check out who's appearing.

But I can't believe Pipkin isn't going to show up?? And Hawkbit is??? I can understand Silver not being in the series - as a character he's not too important if you don't have him at all - but Pipkin has some really good parts in the storyline. And not to mention this means that they can't include my favourite part in the book :/

It really is disappointing :(

What is your favourite part of the book?

I'm glad you asked!

My favourite part is the part before Bigwig leave for Efrafa and Dandelion is telling the story of The Black Rabbit, and halfway through Pipkin says it's scaring him so Fiver, unnervingly detached, offers to take him away to look at the spiders he thinks he saw.

I'm not sure why is my favourite part, but I think that I'm just a sucker for Fiver and Pipkin's friendship.

That really is a cute scene :) Hopefully the miniseries will include the story of El-ahrairah and the Black Rabbit of Inlé, even if we won't be getting any Fiver & Pipkin awesomeness.

Indeed  :) Kinda is sad to hear we won't get the full cast of characters in the miniseries but I'm still hopeful.

It does not even appear in the series of 2000, it's a pity that disapprove characters as great as Silver. At least I have A Bluebell.   :blackberry3
I love Watership Down!

Everything is fine =) (?)
