Fiver and Snitter's Personality
« on: June 28, 2019, 03:07:00 AM »
I was thinking about two beloved characters created by Richard Adams that share a similar personality: Fiver from Watership Down and Snitter from The Plague Dogs. Both have a paranoid personality, but are hopeful when it comes to accomplishing their dreams even when there are obstacles in the way. Their paranoia developed from different reasons: Snitter received it from the brain surgeries he had at the research lab and Fiver was most likely born with his visions of danger.

In a way, I also think Bigwig is similar to Rowf.

You are right. These are almost the same character types and of course there is nothing problem with it.
Honestly I felt similar types in the WSD story itself. For exemple,

Bigwig - Buckthorn - Silver - Acorn
Fiver - Pipkin
Dandelion - Speedwell
Chervil - Orchis - Avens - Bartsia
Vervain - Thistle - Thunder - Charlock

I absolutely understand why few characters are never be in any adaptation, even I like them.

I find it ironic though because Snitter was voiced by John Hurt who voiced Hazel in Watership Down and Fiver voiced Richard Briers. Who
"All the world will be your enemy, Prince of a Thousand enemies. And when they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you; digger, listener, runner, Prince with the swift warning. Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed."- Lord Frith

@Inlé-roo you make some valid points about similar characters, especially with the Efrafans.  I assume you put Speedwell with Dandelion because they're both storytellers, with Speedwell's chapter in TFWD? (Bluebell would also fit to a lesser extent)

Too bad they didn't get Richard Briers back too...
Why the "Who" though?

As for Snitter and Rowf being similar to Fiver and Bigwig respectively, I can't comment on that yet.  I really need to stop procrastinating and watch that movie, or read the book, or both...

Both characters suffer a lot, but they hold hope in their hearts of a quiet place to live. Interesting...   :fiver2
I love Watership Down!

Everything is fine =) (?)

Oh yes. And about Bluebell that's right too.
