In Fields Of Sun
« on: May 24, 2022, 07:50:07 PM »
Is anybody aware of the Andrew Lloyd Webber composed "In Fields Of Sun"?

I thought that it was the overture intro to Bright Eyes from the opening, but most sources give a lyric credit to Mike Batt, so that can't be it yeah?

Unless the credit is for the lyrics to Bright Eyes?

i don't remember another lyrical song in the show at all and have not heard one during my current rewatch yet (i'm half way through season 2).

I think your initial assumption, that it was the opening theme until it goes to Bright Eyes, was correct.  The theme song changes in season 3, and Andrew Lloyd Webber's credit is also dropped.

Perhaps the Mike Batt credit is simply a reference to Bright Eyes at the end of the intro, or maybe there is an alternate version of the song that wasn't publicly released.

If you're halfway through season 2, you won't encounter any further lyrical songs throughout the rest of the series (apart from the usual Bright Eyes during the end credits).

It must have been a massive waste of money for Webber's composing skills.

I'm not a huge ALW fan, but if the opening is really his work, i gotta say, it's my favorite of all the original tracks for the show.

I wonder if he's fan and if his contribution was kind of passion project thing, small as it may be.

More Andrew! more! do Watership Down: The Musical!

The passion project theory sounds highly plausible.  In fact, ALW actually owns the Down itself, using it to train racehorses.

A musical adaptation, if done well, could be really great :thethuthinnang
