This thread contains a question AND a glare at a certain website.  :moss

Which image hosting website would you recommend?

You might have heard about the Photobucket upset of recent times. I only discovered this the other day when I noticed that my pictures on another forum were not showing up any more, and in place, a grey box message about having to update in order to have the images show. A little investigation further and it seems that you have to suddenly pay a lot of money a year to embed the images on external sites! From completely free one day to $$$ the next - eurgh! I haven't looked yet, but I expect if I opened up my art thread on here that my pictures would be replaced, as well. Now ugly, grey box-filled threads! However, if I have understood correctly at all, pasting the link into another site would still work? I think it only has removed the ability to embed images. Have not tested.

I wasn't using the site too much these days, but it was so useful my images on the odd forum rather than having clickable links. I joined Photobucket a long time ago - I suppose 2003? - and do have a heck of a lot of images on there which I am now considering deleting most of them (and having to save some back on to a computer - yay, that will take up a lot of time...). I have noticed over the years that it was lagging like heck for any web browser or computer I went on, with many dodgy adverts coming up, which also put me off using it much the last few years. But as I said, it did have its little use...

...Which other, more modern websites have, right? What would be my best bet for switching to? I want to make sure images I do upload will be as secure as one can be with these sites. I liked the locked albums/privacy setting on the other site. Preferably one that doesn't lag!! and will work on my older computers, and won't vanish in so many days, etc. I am a bit behind the times with these things, clearly demonstrated by my still using Photobucket at all. :D

Thanks for any input. :)

Ah, Photobucket, you sure made a big mess :inle-series

Personally I use Imgur, but PostIMG that Claws recommended seems good too.
Have you considered making each day count - doing something meaningful each day - instead of letting the days and weeks and months and years fly into oblivion? --Bright Side

Thanks to Rosie Willowwater for the avatar!!

I use PostIMG and love it :) It's easy for my computer to run, too, so you shouldn't have a problem with lagging, Meadow :)

Okay, I shall take a look soon! Thanks. :D

Have you still the option to have a log in and keep the images private to just you when they're uploaded on the site? (Of course once you link the image onto a forum, that's different.) Having the 'just upload', no need to sign in option feels a bit 'open' to me? How can you be sure nobody else can access the uploaded pictures on there?

There's absolutely no way that people can look at your pictures as far as I can see, logged in or out. :)
