How do companies worth billions of Dollars, have the best security ever and have people working shifts day and night... .... How do these companies suffer from outages?

Do you have a specific company in mind?  Or just companies in general.
Have you considered making each day count - doing something meaningful each day - instead of letting the days and weeks and months and years fly into oblivion? --Bright Side

GMail went down and I wrote the subject out of annoyance but it does annoy a lot of people when Google, Microsoft etc have issues since people rely on these comapnies to be reliable 24/7.

Banks as well, that happens sometimes when sites go down.

It's important to keep in mind that these big companies still have to use the same software and hardware as the rest of us.  They have large support teams to help restore service when something fails, but they can't magically prevent hardware failure or bugs in the Windows operating system.
