Does this mean that any who beats Roth will not become an officer in command of anything; it just means they will only get an opportunity to eat like officer this one time? I ask this just to be clear what is at stake in this challenge.

Oh, sorry, I do see how that is unclear.
They will be officers for the excursion and will control a group, not many make it, but there should be enough to satisfy the need for them. Current officers are not exactly demoted or anything, but they are put aside for the time.

Yes, I think it is. That will leave us one day before going to Redwall, right? Or do you mean to skip to the day of departure?

I was thinking of skipping to the day of departure, but if that is too much of a jump, I could just go to the day before the departure.

I have a question for you, Rake, since you know more about Redwall world than I do. Does members of Long Patrol wear any specific type of armor or anything vaguely medieval will do?

Scarlet jackets, some had dark green and gold trim. General foot soldiers wore that, some officers had different colors like light pink or blue. There wasn't any specific armor types that I can recall, I'd assume that some wore chainmail, but I personally picture them looking like 18th and 19th century British army with no armor.

Ah, I see. That kind of outfit made sense in age of guns - that is, before they got decent accuracy. However, in times of swords, arrows and spears it might be better to wear some chain mail or at least some hardened leather armor.
