Trouble in the North - Out of Character discussion

(No, it's not private, although we require that players make some effort in playing here - meaning writing more than one-line posts. Is knowledge of Redwall needed to enjoy this RP? Hmm... It's hard to say. Some knowledge would be useful, I guess. What do you think, Capt. Rake?)

I do not think that an absolute knowledge is needed as you, Myrkin have not read all of them; and one could probably get along well without knowing very much about any of the books, as long as they receive some guidance OOC in this thread.

That's right. Rake can be our guide when it comes to Redwall lore.

Ooh, I like the sound of that.

 As I have read all 22 books a couple of times each, I know all of the plots, main characters, main locations, and a lot of the history of the universe, I would be glad to help out wherever I can if there is confusion as to what a name means to the significance of the story, or a certain location. Another quick way to learn a lot about this stuff is visiting the Redwall wiki site.

Alright. I know enough already to realize that generally speaking(I'm fairly certain nearly exclusively speaking), carnivorous creatures are evil in the stories. I did, however, have a thought that I might want a very morally ambiguous one; possibly a ferret for size purposes. I also feel as if a hare is fitting(I've picked up the book where the mountain city is brought to light, though its name is totally gone ), but I haven't put too much thought into it.

At a basic, I was thinking a maiden hare and that ferret(If I use him, I don't know for sure yet - he'd have to come in later as there's no way he would be living in the city) would be male. My hare would probably be a bit on the optimistic side, constantly keeping her attitude up, no matter the circumstances. I suppose the best way to get her to be apart of the story would be to make her apart of the patrol, wouldn't you agree?

As for the ferret if I make him, he's going to be a chronic liar. You can't really be sure who's side he's actually on, despite holding disdain for the vermin horde.

I like the sound of the ferret, especially the liar part, he seems like a vermin that could be in one of the real books; there have been vermin that became good types in a couple of the books so I think it would work.

As to the hare, she doesn't absolutely need to be part of the patrol, she could be picked up along the way, as a lot of hares live in the north.

Was the book "Mossflower"? Salamandastron is the name of the mountain as well as another of the books.

So he is like a ferret version of Jack Sparrow?

As for good vermin, I'm planning on making one. I think I'll introduce him when we get to the North. That way he could become our first souce of information on what has been happening up there. Is it okay with you?

^I was thinking closer to Loki, but Jack Sparrow's a great comparison. xD I like that idea.

The book I picked up was actually Salamandastron, the name of the place just totally slipped my mind. xD Anyway, I think my hare maiden will be of the patrol, just so it's easier to include her earlier.

The comparison that came to my mind was Tucco (the Ugly) from "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly". Like  I said before, I think it will work well.

Whoever you think draws the closest comparison - no doubt I won't only draw inspiration from Marvel's Loki, nor just "Scandanavian Mythos" Loki(who also has a character of his own, actually!), so we'll see where he developes. I'll name him later, since I lost the names that I had compiled when my laptop died... :\

I'd like to clarify something. When I asked both of you to try to avoid writing one-line posts, I didn't mean that each post has to consist of 5-10 paragraphs of text or else there will be some unspecified punishment awaiting you. If you can write so much and more, then that's awesome! If you can only write a few (4-5) sentences, then that's great too!

The point is to make some basic effort while playing your characters, but you don't have to worry about achieving some mandatory minimum amount of text in each of your posts. Even writing one-line post occasionally won't be the end of the world, because there are times when there is no other choice.

Oh... xD I wanted to match your posts and Cpt. Rake's, just to be safe, but I didn't realize it didn't have to be quite that advanced. Sorry 'bout that xD
