Was "Tales" as good as you hoped?

The first time I read this book I was very excited and the truth is satisfied with one of the chapters. However, that dry end in which Campion dies left a very bitter taste in my mouth. It's just the end of the story ...
As Nayltey Hipster-Roo said, a basic story elaborated with Flyairth or Watership Down rabbits with a more satisfying closure as everyone eating peacefully on the hill with the god Frith wishing them the best, would have been good. Something like that, even if it's corny.

Now that Richard Adams died, there will be no more stories ...
But at least we have the Fan fics and the production on the way.

I have read it, once, from the library and I now have my own copy of it. I liked revisiting the rabbits, but it always felt like a collection of stories to me, rather than a 'proper' novel, sort of like how I feel with Tolkien's Silmarillion. One thing that I would have enjoyed would have been a book about the warren in Nutley Copse, and one that told the story of Campion before Holly and his group went to Efrafa, but I suppose that's what fan fic is for. It is a disappointment in that the book doesn't go as deep as Watership Down, but if you look at it as just a bunch of tales then it's not that bad as I've come across worse.

That would have been a good ending.  Certainly more positive than with the death of Campion (which I found to be nowhere near as emotional as Hazel's in the first book).

One thing that I would have enjoyed would have been a book about the warren in Nutley Copse

The Nutley Copse idea sounds pretty good.  It gets mentioned a few times, Orchis found it, Blackavar's mother was from there, but we never actually get to see the warren itself.  It may have been the inspiration for Redstone in the 1999 series, but once again, we don't get to see the warren before its first demise, not even in flashbacks.  Quite the missed opportunities...

I don't really know why people complaining about the "quality" of this book. Everyone excited to read another big story like the first but this book is not a straight sequel. The genre is changed too. It's a collection of tales, not a whole novel and not called it "Watership Down 2: The Tiny Paws Tickled by Grass" or something.

But honestly, I'm rather glad that the Watershippers aren't going on another epic adventure.  They've already been through a lot, now it's time to relax
