Favorite Season?
« on: May 31, 2019, 12:01:26 AM »
I know this show is well-liked by the WSD fandom.

And I know most people don't like season 2 because it's mostly episodic filler.
Season 1 is more faithful to the book and the Efrafa mini-arc is enjoyable.
Season 3 has a new storyline and the new art style is pretty nice.

That all being taken into account, what is your favorite season of the television series? You really don't have to explain why. This is just a small discussion I thought I'd start up.

Personally, I enjoy season 3 and 1. But season 3 is my overall favorite.

It's a hard question to answer.

Season 3 has the best plot, but suffers from weaker voices and lesser animation.

Season 2, as you point out, has a lot of filler, but it also has some of the best episodes in the entire series, like Prisoner of Efrafa, The Stand and the Christmas special.

Season 1 is overall the most consistent, so I would probably go with 1.

You know, I'm not gonna lie. Season 1 was pretty nice. Reasonable animation. Good voice work. The character color palette is simply flat colors and doesn't have much shading, but that's okay because the plot more than makes up for the quality of the medium.

Season 3's animation was a bit inconsistent in some places.

I've noticed several places where adding some blinking or movement frames would have made the animation more smooth/complete.
Sometimes, characters don't blink when they reasonably should. And then there's that Silverweed moonwalk in season 3 episode 11. Can't stop but notice those moments. And it makes the experience very weird.

Not to mention that one scene in season 3 episode 3 where Bigwig meets with Hazel to discuss the Owsla. The tree looks so small compared to them in the transition shot (when the scene is ending)- and they're sitting right next to it.

The art style is good, though. Usually.

For my part, I am able to enjoy absolutely all the episodes of the series, because I really like the adventures of the bunnies. Especially when the adorable Hawckbit appears on screen, I love it x3    :sarcasm    :wub
My favorite season is 3, because things are accelerated in the plot with interesting things all the time, it's dark and great. All the characters participate and have relevance. That's why it's a good closing.      :spartina :speaker-of-the-past      :silverweed3
I love Watership Down!

Everything is fine =) (?)

I like season 3 the best if you ignore the ending. The junkyard (darkhaven) rabbits where pretty cool. I did like the art style because it gave a darker tone to the series which season 1 and 2 designs were more cutesy. The art style also reminds me of the series Silverwing which I recommend checking out.

I agree! Silverwing looks interesting!

I like bats, so why not?

EDIT: All I can really find is a three-hour long film. It may be a bit off topic, but is this "film" just the series edited together?
EDIT: Judging by my findings, yeah, the 13-episode series was edited into three TV movies.

Yup, that's exactly what it is. Also, I feel the need to add that Silverwing is based on a book series, and the books are also really good. I like the series, but it's quite different from the books and I'd recommend checking both out, especially since more of Shade's story and world is expanded upon in the books.

I'll have to watch Silverwing at some point, but it feels like my list of shows to watch is endless...

@Kousan I never really noticed the moonwalk before, but now that you mention it...yeah that's creepy.

But Darkhaven is still probably the best new subplot in the series.

Silverweed does the moonwalk even better than Michael Jackson, and Bigwig and Spartina doesn't even take notice of his brilliant dancing.

Haha! I agree with both of you!

And now you must suffer with me whenever you rewatch the season! :D

I wonder what they're thinking about instead :bigwig2

Hmmm, probably season 3 just because I like the dark stuff.  Though the voice acting is weak and I didn't like the drastic color changes from the first 2 seasons. Dark Haven's arc was nice as well Woundwort's history (is that canon at all) and I fell in love with Granite, poor guy.   Would have been nice for a fourth season where he comes back, maybe with a few other not so bad Dark Haven rabbits.

Season 1 always sticks with me from my childhood because I watched it the most and it followed the actual story. I really like it, but after watching season 3 I think it's my favourite (besides the last few episodes) for its unique story direction, and I like the characters (especially Silverweed)

I'm kinda surprised so many like season 3 so much. Since I watched all seasons in succession last time (2016) I can't really distinguish season 1 and 2 from each other. But it's definitely one of these two.

I liked certain aspects of season 3, like Vervain and Silverweed tagging along with Woundwort, and the idea of Darkhaven, but overall it wasn't my cup of tea. This will sound very odd but I found it too plotty? I know that makes little sense but I have no other way to explain what I mean. I tend to prefer a splash of some calmer, non-important elements (perhaps the reason I like the filler episodes as well). Kinda slice of life-ish? If that makes sense. Add to that that I don't like the change in style either and season 3 is easily not a contender for favourite for me.
