I wish they had the moment where the rabbits got scared of Hollys voice from the story. They thought he was the black rabbit when he approached. It didn't happen in BBC

Not a fan  of how completely uneventful Holly's return is.

Yeah, they could have done that better.

One thing I like, though, is that there is some time that goes by between his arrival and him telling the story of Sandleford's destruction, unlike in the 1978 film and the 1999 series.  However, for some reason he tells Hazel alone, rather than to everyone in the Honeycomb (which hasn't been dug yet).

I dunno, it felt a little sudden to me, comparatively. A little abrupt.

Perhaps it's just the fact that the two happen in different episodes gives the illusion that more time has passed...

I was somewhat surprised Holly had more of a role here. I mean, he practically vanished in the 1999+ series and wasn't too much in the film. Also curious he was the only 'goodie' to die.
Here lies a signature that has little point.

He does have a more important role than in any previous adaptation.  Here, he leads the first trip to Efrafa, just like in the book, but for some reason he also comes along during the second trip.  I'm not sure I like this.

I don't mind his death, honestly, because it frees Hyzenthlay and gives her the opportunity to find another mate who would make more sense.

It seems to me that Holly has greater participation and importance in this story, due to her trips to Sandleford, Watership Down and Efrafa. His love for Hysenthay and his courageous death in the end ... Instead of Blackkavar dying, now I touch him. I find Holly's participation fascinating, compared to her other versions. I have more prominence here, I love it!   :primrose     :holly

On second viewing of the second episode...... Holly looks like a hare.

"You Lack Animality! You have no integrity. Animals don't behave as like most men. If they have to fight, they fight. If they have to kill, they kill, but they don't devise ways of hurting other creatures." - Captain Holly Watership Down (2018)

Perhaps the most awesome moment, when he stood up to Captain Vervain in Efrafa

"What makes a good soldier is not always what makes a good rabbit." - Captain Holly Watership Down (2018)

The very most important moment for me when he scolded Captain Campion over the atrocity of rabbits being marked. Very relevant about how soldiers are being looked at in the human world, past and present.

That's why he's my favorite of Watership Down and favorite portrayal of Holly in any Watership Down adaptation.

Holly is quite a down-to-earth rabbit, loyal to her den, her boss, peers, and friends. He would instinctively fight with that animality that rabbits must have. In all the interpretations of him it has always been like that, and it shows how he has evolved for the better, after the destruction of Sandleford. He may be the only rabbit who meets all the qualities to be a substitute leader after Hazel.
He has my vote and I would trust him.   :dandelion   :holly      :celebrate :cheers

Hmm, kinda embarrassed at some of my earlier posts, made after just one viewing...

The miniseries did handle Holly better than the other adaptations (especially the 1999 series, where he doesn't have a single spoken line between Cowslip's warren and the final episode :holly).  The relationship with Hyzenthlay could have had more buildup, but they do share one cute moment...just before the tragic death.  The death was rather pointless, since he survived in the book, but it fits with the pattern of each adaptation killing one good guy near the end...

The first quote is very similar to one in the book, although in the book it was Strawberry who said it :strawberry3 I think it fits in well with miniseries!Holly too though.

The soldier one quote is also pretty great; this one appears to be entirely new.

He may be the only rabbit who meets all the qualities to be a substitute leader after Hazel.
In the book, it is said that he was considered to become Chief after Hazel was presumed dead at Nuthanger Farm.  However, he said that he was in no condition to take it on (considering the disastrous Efrafan visit) and it ultimately proved unnecessary since Hazel wasn't dead :hazel2 He probably could have done a good job, though.

Not forgetting that he is still carrying the pain of Sandleford's destruction. Holly ... He must be bearing the blame, for something he might have managed to avoid, if only he had listened to Fiver. But there was no way to predict such a disaster, that it would actually occur.
For that reason he does not want to be a leader, but at the same time and because of the herrors that he has learned, I think that currently, he would do a wonderful job.
He he knows, like Hazel, how to treat other rabbits with respect.   :hazel

Absolutely. That's why he's my favorite in the miniseries canon..... and basically define him as bada**.
