Hawkbit and Dandelion

It was interesting that Hawkbit and Dandelion were together in a lot of shots. Do you think they really did watch a bit of the series after all, or just a coincidence?

Oh, they absolutely did. I hold up Hawkbit and Dandelion as the shining example that they did.

And their colors kinda lean towards the TV series, since Dandi is kinda golden-ish and Hawkbit's grayish so there's that as well

There would be no reason to pick Hawkbit as a character based on the book alone. It happening again would be too much of a coincodence

Mhmmm

Yeah, really, why Hawkbit? And not include Pipkin who has a far wider role in the book?

I am a disappointed there was no Pipkin. He has such adorable scenes with Hazel in the book

If anything, it does take something from Hazel to not include Pipkin. To say nothing of taking away from Pipkin.

Be sure that Pipkin is mightily peeved off about this.

Yeah, does actually.

I was hoping for Pipkin to appear, but I guess when you bring a character or two into the series, you gotta make sacrifices

Not existing does take away a lot from a character yeah
It's almost as if they aren't there

...Hawkbit and Dandelion were together in the series?  :huh I know there were a few scenes where they were fighting over Strawberry, and I remember them in the first scene at Sandleford, but I generally wasn't aware they existed since I had a hard time telling the rabbits apart. My mind refused to distinguish rabbits by sight (and voice given many of those were similar) and just waited for a name to come up. Their few scenes were decent for humor, but by then I found Kehaar more entertaining.

It does seem like a stretch for it to be a coincidence. I don't even remember Hawkbit from the book and he wasn't in the movie, and movie-Dandelion looks exactly like Hazel to me. If the creators were going to be influenced by something or want to associate them with characters we've seen before, they might as well turn to the TV series. As for being together, a Google search suggests hawkbit and dandelion flowers look similar, so I figure that's a good excuse to pair those rabbits.

I'll have to watch the miniseries again sometime to see if they have more of an impact on me, because I do want to appreciate that duo after how much I loved them from the TV series. The funny thing is I did think of that when they were fighting over Strawberry, but dismissed it as "surely that's unintentional, they weren't aiming to adapt the TV series, I shouldn't use that to help recognize them."

The only thing I can see from the trailer that might be them is when you hear "I think you've given us a home", with Hawkbit and Strawberry and Dandelion.

They have quite a few Hawkbit and Dandelion scenes. I liked that couple of rabbits in all possible ways. Especially when they are preparing the holes for Watership Down in their interactions. But the funniest thing about Hackbit, when he's trying the carrot for the first time in Cowslip's burrow, is so adorable. I loved both = 3   :dandelion  :hawkbit

I thought that was Bluebell?  Could be wrong though.

Honestly, I'm rather disappointed that Hawkbit appeared in the miniseries.  He really didn't accomplish much in the original book.  In the 1999 series he was the main comic relief character, but this is unnecessary here, since the miniseries already has Bluebell, who is much funnier.

I would gladly have traded Hawkbit away for Pipkin, or even some other minor Sandleford rabbit who was never adapte before, like Acorn or Speedwell.

A lot of it could be down to name... I guess Acorn sounds a bit ordinary next to something like 'Hawkbit'. Although Speedwell is quite different. Otherwise I really don't know why they would have gone for Hawkbit (aside from some series influence).
