Is it just me or did Blackberry not get that much to do in the miniseries, apart from being kissed by Bluebell?

YES

I hate what they did with Blackberry honestly

Quoting self angain: Character-wise, obviously choices had to be made. Most characters were fine to me but I absolutely hate what they did to Blackberry. Where is my smart bun? His role also got severely cut and even though the first episode makes him out to be clever, we see nothing of that in the other episodes. He's kinda forgotten ad reduced to being... ah what is a good word? an aristocrat comes to mind but that's not really right... at any rate, he's not clever anymore.

In essence, I don't mind his character. It's just strange how they had seemingly intended for him to still be clever but then forgot? It just doesn't feel like Blackberry anymore.

I find the interactions with Bluebell funny, but the boats are ruined.  When they cross the Enborne it doesn't really focus on him, and the bit about the river Test gets removed entirely.  In episode 1 someone (I forget who) says that he's clever, but he never gets much of a chance to prove it.

Exactly.

And it wouldn't be such an issue if they simply decided not to make him clever (I would be appalled but that aside) but saying he's clever but not showing he's clever is simply a bad move.

That's what I mean when I say I don't mind the character the miniseries created, apart from this fact.

If that makes sense?

I think that makes sense.

Blackberry was messed up by all the adaptations, it seems.  I like the female Blackberry from the 1999 series, but she's pretty much a different character, it seems. And in the miniseries, like you said, they don't show his cleverness. He was pretty cute in the film though :)

I think the miniseries crew confused "intelligent" with "posh poindexter". Because, really, he just came off to me as "the nerd" more than, y'know, Blackberry. Down-to-Earth and clearly intelligent.
