Fat Cat's Fancy
« on: March 09, 2017, 03:56:30 PM »
I finished this work in November and it was my first completed work in nearly a year. This gave me the courage to keep pressing forward and eventually finish what came to be called Defiance. This is what I posted then when I revealed my work.

Lately I have felt like I have been in a rut and that my passion for life was gone. I realized that I wanted to draw again but couldn't summon the courage, joy, or confidence required. It felt like Chris the artist wasn't me anymore, and that I could not recreate the magic that I once had. My various projects laid abandoned, mocking me by making me wonder what they could have looked like had I been able to finish them. I forced myself to draw and I got nothing. I was done.

Two days ago, when I felt like I was at a new low, I got a spark of inspiration. I sat down to draw again but was very frightened. I had lost my touch. I never knew what I was doing to begin with. I was a lucky fraud. I take construction photos of all my drawings not only to share with others but also as a reminder for myself that every one of my drawings started with nothing and gradually took shape, bit by bit, step by step. It wasn't luck. It was hard work, dedication, and the courage to apply and develop a long hidden talent of mine for the first time in my life. I used those photos to give me confidence to try again. For a fleeting moment the dark clouds parted in my mind to let the sun shine once more.

No amount of bigotry, bullying, depression, or anxiety can extinguish the human spirit. I feel alive again, doing what I was born to do. I am, and always will be an artist. I am, and always will be a human being worthy of dignity, respect, and joy. My friends, I present to you my first completed work in nine months. I present to you my victory.

I like it, it's well-done and very detailed :)
Have you considered making each day count - doing something meaningful each day - instead of letting the days and weeks and months and years fly into oblivion? --Bright Side

Thanks to Rosie Willowwater for the avatar!!

Here is a full resolution of my drawing if anyone would like it.

All of my drawings are scanned in at 600 DPI at a minimum. I strongly urge artists to keep their work at a high resolution. Mine is about 4500x4000 pixels and is around 10 MB. If I used flat colors it would compress even more without losing any quality, as I use lossless PNG format. Not only is high resolution important for viewing as you can see all the fine details and enjoy it much more, it's especially important if you want to make prints. Data storage is cheap- your artwork is precious. Make it as good as you can!

That's a fantastic drawing...I could imagine a whole movie about Fat Cat. Really nice artwork that's as good as a professional animator.
