My theory is that Cowslip has at least some domestic rabbit in him. Possibly bred by humans and got out.

That's very interesting, your parents could be pets. And liberated to live in "freedom" in exchange for their lives. Without cages ... That's why Cowslip is the "rabbit boss" ...    :blackberry3        :cowslip

I think in a radio drama or something they included a part were Fiver was talking about how to cowslip rabbits came to be. They were all house rabbits but were let loose so that the farmer didn't have to take care of them besides feeding them but then their population went out of control to the farmer started setting up snared. Does this ring a bell to anyone? I can't remember where it was from.

That does ring a bell, but I don't know where I heard it. Either way, house rabbit thing seems to be widely accepted.

I can't remember hearing that before, I'm afraid.  I quickly checked the 2016 radio drama, and that's not where it comes from.  However, there have been several other radio adaptations, that I haven't listened to.  Perhaps it comes from one of those?

I remember that, in the book, it was said that the warren existed long before the farmer started feeding and snaring the rabbits.  However, that doesn't exclude Cowslip, and maybe others, having started their life/lives as human companions :cowslip
