It's interesting to compare to now where companies can get fairly instant feedback from their fan bases to the days even in Sonic 06/EtD times how or when they try to recover.
It's not like when those games were released they could just release a patch when glitches are discovered like in Super Smash Ultimate, or redact unpopular content, like loot boxes in Star Wars Battlefront.
And still some companies do put out unpopular content, like the continuation of poor mechanics in later Paper Marios, even after they were universally panned by the fans.
