Your theory? Why is Blackavar suddently brown?
« on: December 16, 2018, 08:44:11 PM »
I was talking with a friend and we were discussing about the coloring of the rabbits in the movie. And then we were like "wait a minute .. was Blackavar, black, blue or brown in the movie?"

He seems to have at least one color swap during the movie. Did they just ran out of black ink or something?  :irony

I never noticed the colour swap.  That's pretty interesting.  I suppose it might be an animation mistake?

But I find it really annoying how he's not black.  He is one of the few rabbits whose fur colour is stated in the original book, and in both the film and the 1999 series they got it wrong :blackavar).  Here's hoping for something better in the miniseries...

One thing I find interesting, however, is that Blackavar's film voice actor, is the only Black member of the cast.

This is all very interesting.
I hadn't noticed, but maybe it was due to his voice actor and they didn't want to come off the wrong way.

Either that *tries to think of reason why a black rabbit could turn brown*
... He rolled in pee. His fur got bleached by the sun.

I always thought he was a dark shade of brown, but scenes such as when he's getting his ears ripped, and under the bridge he's grey. We haven't seen a picture of him yet in the miniseries though I hope he is a black rabbit.

I always thought that was just lighting, like how sometimes being in a shadow can make colors like duller (more grayish) along with being darker.

I agree with Thron that this colour difference is probably due to the lighting.

The council did it.  It was part of his punishment, along with getting his ears ripped.

I thought he was pretty dark in the film... am I misremembering again? :D I don't remember him looking as light as he does in those stills above. :0 Part of it might be being used to a recording off the TV where the colours tended to be darker. I really need to watch the film (DVD version) again soon.

So Blackavar's colouring in the film never bothered me, yet it did in the series.
Here lies a signature that has little point.

It's not rare for, in hand-drawn animation (ESPECIALLY in older films like this one), for characters to randomly change color when not having to do with lighting.
I've seen it a ton. I'm not sure as to the WHY- but it can be anything from the animators making a mistake to them running out of ink, to... well, the world may never know.
Either way, this is something that happens.

I remember him being dark gray in the movie, which I interpreted as black.

I guess the animators thought he wouldn't stand out well if he were black.

Hahahah. Yes-Yes. The councils fault. I totally can imagine the Efrafans with watercolor bucket. XD
