I don't recall too much thumping in the film, only that scene where Cowslip shows up and Blackberry has a go at it.

He's the clever one.

There was also Hazel on the roof of the doghouse to warn Dandelion of the cat.  But other than these two scenes, I think that's it.

I don't remember any in the miniseries.

Ah yes, maybe only those two were scripted in because they were afraid the animators would draw pads on their feet.

They were both in the book too, although I don't remember if it was Blackberry or someone else...

If it was something clever, it could only have been Blackberry.  It's his character class.

I think my favorite paragraph in all the book was when Hazel was trying to comprehend what Blackberry was saying about wood floating.  The poor chap must be insane.

There was a forum member with the username @CleverBlackberry.  Unfortunately they only ever made one post...

It must have been confusing for Hazel, since thumping usually means that there is a predator or danger near by. I used to keep gerbils when I was younger and they would do the same thing if they were nervous/concerned about something.

Cowslip would probably qualify as a danger :cowslip Although, nobody knew it at the time except Fiver :fiver3 Blackberry probably just wanted to quickly attract everyone's attention, since they were all busy arguing :blackberry-buck
