Filler Episodes

Yes, we have an own section just for the episodes, but here, I don't want to talk about particular episodes but about the fillers in general.

Yes, leaving the fillers and showing some scenes from Sandleford would have been a great idea.

But c'mon, when you're honest, there are just four filler episodes in the series:

- The Market
- The Big Water
- The Mysterious Visitors
- The Invasion
(we've another topic, where I already mentioned the "The"-syndrome of the series :D )

The first two bring at least some variation in the sets of the series. The third one brings in the magic that will be important in the third season and the last one has the nice doggy-style sheepdog-part (note to myself (or Claws :D ): We need dog-emoticons).

So we have no episode in my opinion, that is totally worse (contrary to other series like The Animals of Farthing Wood - I mean, take the whole third season).

Sure, I will make it ASAP :)

Those are all AWFUL episodes, mate. There's no point in praising what surely was an accidental setting (I don't think "Mysterious Visitors" hinted magic very wisely... or even in a believable way for example).

Those episodes nearly put me off the entire series... they meant nothing, and nothing happened in them. They also pushed the limits of what a rabbit can do - are they really smart enough to ride buses? All the other episodes are... feasible; a rabbit could be seen IRL "guarding" a bridge, or interacting with another species, etc. But riding buses? No.

I think you could totally skip those episodes and not miss anything.

I like the idea behind The Market, but I think the execution is poor.  It would have been nice if the humans had actually noticed the rabbits before the part with the pig.

The Great Water?  Um...seriously the bus leading to the exact part of the great [sic] water where :kehaar lived?  That's rather unlikely. :calohki is a nice character, however.

Sometimes, I think it may have been a good idea to group all the filler episodes in one single episode.  The Mysterious Visitors could have gone something like this:
:hazel2 I hear you wish to speak to the Chief Rabbit of this warren?
Visitors: Oh yes, could you please direct us to him?
:hazel You're speaking to him right now.
Visitors: Oh!  Well we heard so many great things about you...
:hazel2 If you heard so much about me, surely you must know what I look like?
Visitors: They saw through our trick, RUN!
:pipkin Oh how I would have loved to have them teach me how to fly!
:kehaar Climb on, little Pipkin!  You shall fly with me!

Moving on...

The Invasion, I have to say, I like it.  While it may be the worst episode of the series, it's so bad it's good, with :blackberry2 teleporting among other things.

I absolutely had forgotten to mention something important in my post :vervain-facepalm

Except for some unusual things (like riding buses), there's something, that would have made the whole filler episodes pleasanter to watch:

Put them BEFORE the episode "The Stand"! Because now, we are ripped of the plot and that's, what makes "Mysterious Visitors" and "The Invasion" so annoying.

I don't see "Bigwig's Way" as a filler, because it brings in Tassel and the skills, she taught Hannah, would be useful for the rescue of Blackberry, Campion and Spartina in the third season. But putting this episode right before the finale wasn't really worthy of  :el-ahrairah

Wait, why isn't Winter on WSD counted as a filler? (That is the name of the  :buttercup2  episode, right?)

I actually don't mind the fillers at all. In fact, I like them. I do agree that their placing could've been better but other than that I enjoyed them. Episodes don't have to further plot or even make complete sense all the time for me. As long as they're entertaining.

Out of those four episodes 'The Big Water' is probably the one I liked the least. The bus-riding was so unlikely that it was funny to me though. But yeah overall the least of the bunch. 'The Market' was great though. So much chaos^^

I loved 'The Mysterious Visitors'! I thought those two, Bluesky and Raincloud (right?), were absolutely hilarious.^^ I was a bit disappointed we never actually see them go to Efrafa though. I would love to have seen that! :)

'The Invasion' I liked too. I liked that it put in the dog-chase scene. When I rewatched the series I also finally knew where I had seen the dog-chase scene in Warrior Cats before.^^

I'll even go as far as to say that I wouldn't have minded more of these fillers. Sign me up for a slice-of-life WSD. Or a rabbit soap opera :p

I said it already: I also liked the fillers. Don't mind the bad rating on my website. A 1/4-WSD-episode is still a 8,5/10-general-animated-tv-series-episode rating ;)

Why I haven't listed the Christmas-Special? Sure, it's a filler, but I liked it really much. This thread should only go for the worst episodes of the series ;)

Oh I see. Seeing a 1/4 rating in bright red kinda gives off an harsh impression^^ At any rate I simply wanted to say something positive about the fillers since fillers in general get quite a lot of bad reactions.

Such bias for the Winter-special :D I like the special a lot too though. :buttercup

Despite the contradictions with episodes filler, in this case Watership Down, particularly not bother me. But, The Mysterious Visitors is the only one who is my least favorite.
The market has many interesting things, interactions and characters for the trip. Although in reality the rabbits do not like to travel far to reach the sea.
I love Watership Down!

I have mixed feelings about The Market/The Big Water. They were out of place to me. I didn't enjoy them much personally. It was an interesting idea, but not something the rabbits would actually be doing.

I rather liked The Invasion, and The Mysterious Visitors was okay! Overall, I can definitely tolerate watching all of these episodes, not often though. :lol

And yeah, I loved the Christmas special.

I think we can all agree that the filler episodes would have been easier to tolerate/enjoy if they were spread apart more evenly throughout the first two seasons, instead of having a cluster of fillers at the end of the second season.

I haven't watched any of these episodes in a long time, but I remember that the last time I watched The Invasion, I had to speed it up to twice the normal speed to be able to stand it.

And I agree that the Christmas Frith's Eve special, while it doesn't matter to the main storyline, is still great.

As in the filling series is optional, you can skip all this trouble and go to the main story. Naruto is the maximum master of the useless filler, only a true fan sees all.
That's why I love anything from Watership Down by it seem illogical, provided you have "quality".
And I agree that special Christmas is the most brilliant and beautiful that has the series  :bigwig3

I love Watership Down!
