Nildro smiled tiredly. "Yeah, that would be great." Now snugly in her burrow, she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.
In her dreams, she drifted off to the months of her life spent in the Warren of the Shining Wire. She saw her brother, Elil-ela, a few hops in front of her.
"C'mon, Birdie! Hurry up!" His white tail bounced up and down in the grass.
"I'm hurrying, I'm hurrying," Nildro laughed, trying to keep up with him.
They rounded a yew tree and landed in a pile of leaves. Rolling around playfully, the two young rabbits were blissfully ignorant of the dark secret of their warren.
In her dream, Nildro suddenly saw her brother dig into the autumn leaves. "Stop! What are you doing?" she cried.
"I'm just digging. I think there's something shiny down there..." Elil-ela dug his nose deper into the pile.
"No! No!" Nildro screamed, and tried to pry him out. He shoved her off and continued digging. Again she tried to stop him, but then it was too late. Ensnared in the wire, Elil-ela thrashed about, calling Nildro's name and begging her for help. The image blurred and faded to the sound of his pleas.
Nildro-roo awoke with a start. The dream had become a common thing in the past months, but it frightened her every time.
"Hey, Nettle, I think it's time for my watch."
