Real life tail tag?
« on: September 04, 2016, 12:31:48 AM »
Okay, there are (quite a few) rabbits on my campus, and I was watching three of them this morning running around in circles chasing one another.

They had been going at it for a few minutes when one of them bumped its head into another's tail, and this one proceeded to jump what had to have been a bit more than half a meter into the air. Although it was a bit difficult to judge precisely as I was watching from the third floor (second floor for all you Europeans out there), and they were almost directly beneath me, perhaps four or five meters from the building.

When this rabbit had landed from its flight, it bolted under a bush and didn't show itself again for the duration I was watching.

Has anyone else ever seen anything like this?
I've missed this place.

This may be off-topic, but I thought, this sort of game is called "Tackle-Tag" in Watership Down. :huh

I really think it's tail tag.  I think Bigwig called it that in "The Roundabout", and Pipkin in "The Invasion".

I haven't seen this in real life, but I have seen photos of things like this happening.

I don't own any of these photographs.

Did someone mention animal behaviour? Finally I can put my years of college to use

Bunnies do play with each other a lot!! Especially if they're young, but older buns play too. A lot of active/high energy behaviors aren't seen in pet/captive bunnies because they aren't given enough room or compatible friends. They do run around and chase each other and sometimes they play fight too. It helps to build bonds between different members of the warren, develop skills they need for later life and builds up muscle and bodily control.

Also, it is called Tail Tag in English, perhaps it's different in other languages.

Hey!! Realllllllllly sorry for the double post, but I wanted to continue my last post and so that you can see this one.

I went on a road trip a few days ago and we intended to stop at this particular service station that has loads of wild bunnies who play chase a lot. We weren't able to stop there this time so I couldn't get you any video of them playing tail tag.
But I did find this video of wild bunnies playing!

These rabbits look similar to the swamp rabbits I see here in Houston. Cool Video by the way:D
