Isle of Dogs and Peter Rabbit Trailer
« on: September 21, 2017, 08:33:33 PM »
These two trailers came out today and I wanted to know other people's opinions on them.

I think the isle of dogs looks pretty good and original. I like dogs and Wes Anderson's other stop motion movie Fantastic Mr. Fox. :duster

But the peter rabbit movie looks ginaric and kiddish. I feel like a lot of kids movies have it where human leaves and animals through a party in their house.

xDDD I'm a huge fan of Wes Anderson's work and will indeed wait for Isle of Dogs for I believe it will be worth.  :silverweed3

Generic? Generic?! Are you mad? This isn't just generic, this is an insult! Words cannot describe the seething hatred I hold for Sony Pictures Animation regarding this movie. I hoped and prayed that they'd treat the property with respect, but no, of course not, I'm too optimistic for my own good. At least the Emoji Movie wasn't a classic, beloved property and I didn't expect any better from it. Why would you do this to Peter Rabbit, the most down-to-earth, innocent children's stories imaginable?

For the love of God, if you like Peter Rabbit, don't watch this Sony tripe or even the newer series. Instead, watch The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends. Beautiful animation that looks like the books came to life, lots of quiet down-time, beautiful intro and background music throughout, and, best of all, it respects the viewer's intelligence.

Seeing the Peter Rabbit trailer makes me think of a silent film review I read a while ago:
Quote from: Quote:on
But how many movies follow the book upon which they are based? We live in an age where every pregnancy manual, board game, action figure and 80’s cartoon is considered basis for a major motion picture. Producers will buy original scripts and then slap a recognizable name on them to sell tickets. It’s a bait-and-switch and it’s as annoying as anything but it was and is extremely common. A few of these movies are even good. Semon was guilty of appropriating a brand without using its substance. If that’s a crime, all the producers in Hollywood would be jailbirds. What Semon deserves to be roundly condemned for is appropriating the brand badly.
Replace "Semon" with whoever directed this Peter Rabbit movie and it's perfectly accurate.

But I have to admit that I LOVE that first scene where it's just Peter running through the fields.  I want the WD miniseries to look like this, minus the blue jacket.

As for Isle of Dogs, that could actually be interesting :)

For Peter Rabbit... Take the original and then destroy it.
"All the world will be your enemy, Prince of a Thousand enemies. And when they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you; digger, listener, runner, Prince with the swift warning. Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed."- Lord Frith

I'm not even comparing it to the original story I'm just talking about what the trailer shows the audience. But if you want my comparison than fine.
First of all what the trailer shows doesn't seem anywhere near  close the the original story they just used Peter rabbit and Mr. Mcgreger which I pictured him to be an old man. The movie looks like something a 5 year old would wanna drag their partners to because of the funny looking cgi animals not knowing or caring about the story.

I've seen that cartoon before I use to watch it on vhs. Which if they were to make a smart choice for the movie they would take advice from the cartoon

Apologies if it seemed like I was yelling at you personally. Not my intent at all. If anything, I was using your words as a vehicle to vent my own frustrations.

Totally agree on everything you said. And oh maan, I loved my World of Peter Rabbit VHS tapes as a kid. Used to watch them at my grandma's house a ton, which is where my attachment comes from. If I had my way, there'd be no movie and just more episodes of the cartoon, but hey, if this movie used that style and dropped the Sony name, I wouldn't be nearly as bothered.

I liked watching the cartoon too. I rewatched it recently and it's still good.

Really the movie trailer made me think of that terrible Marmaduke movie.

First of all the CGI looks rather creepy, to say the least.
I much prefer this other bunny, made by Sony Pictures.

They really knew how to make it adorable to E.B. and the story is not bad.
But here in Petter rabbit leaves much to be desired.
Definitely better the classic or animated series on computer. That's what I think.

Quite agree with you, Hammy. No property is sacred from an idiotic CG remake these days. Beatrix Potter's books should be respected and kept as they are - how they have been for decades. The World of Peter Rabbit & Friends was a lovely series, keeping to the feel and tradition of the piece. This film will be one to miss for sure.

Now Isle Of Dogs intrigues me. It seems different and I love just how stop-motiony it is! Those dogs -- great! Hand-drawn and stop-motion animation excite me which CG never can do. I hope and hope we'll see more of this kind again at the cinema.

I prefer the BBC's CG remake of Peter Rabbit to the new one because at least the 12 minutes shows didn't rely on James Cordon and it gave some exposure to the child actors voicing Peter Rabbit, Benjamin Bunny and the girl rabbit.

*Unexpected Tackle-hugs with loving Nuzzles for all* There is indeed criticism here in this forum, whether in support or in against something involving their preference of Peter Rabbit, whether Constative or not.  :bigwig3
