costume advice!
« on: October 08, 2017, 08:25:40 AM »
hi guys, flora here!

(story of my life ahead smh)

next year in june theres a pop culture con me and my close friend want to go to and i decided that i want to take a costume!! my first thought was 'well, im very into breath of the wild and the legend of zelda franchise in general so why not botw zelda?' but i chickened out because all the little props and decorations on the costume are way too daunting for me. my second thought was then 'hey what about korrina from pokemon shes cool as heck' so yeah thats my plan. ive been to cons before but ive never cosplayed to them. i do have a cosplay history, but its been quite a while since ive cosplayed. i used to make props and little tidbits and stuff as well as making clothing (mainly just dresses and skirts, although my knowledge of pleating is very limited) but im stumped with korrinas outfit - namely the gloves and shoes.

(https://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/2/2b/XY_Korrina.png/300px-XY_Korrina.png - a link to her character model if you feel like helping out but arent sure who she is)

my main issues with her shoes and gloves is how to approach them. as you can see, her gloves are very fingerless. no link on the internet has helped me understand how to construct gloves with no fingers (minus the thumb). and her shoes are baffling. i was always planning on just doing up another pair of shoes, but what is going on with hers? obviously ill be without the actual skates on her shoes. i cant determine what kind of show it is; it looks sorta thick like ugg boots but you cant get uggs in that length. the little accessories are pretty simple to add on.

oh! and another thing! the wig! my only concern is where to place the ponytail. i dont own a bike so i dont have a helmet so i cant check, but would i have to make a hole in the back of the helmet to thread the ponytail in, or could a ponytail at her height fit without any modifying?

thanks to anyone who decides to help!
flora xx

I don't know much about cosplay, so I don't know just how helpful this will be :/

To make the gloves, onecould take a regular pair of gloves and cut off the fingers, although based on the picture, it seems that part of the palm is also left exposed.  That would require cutting off a large part of the glove...

As for the hair, I don't have a bicycle either :/ Her hair is huge, it might be better not to thread it, but insert it from the outside of the helmet and then attach it.

I don't really know about the shoes...

I love sewing but I've never made clothes before.
For her skates maybe try to find some two wheel roller blades and paint them.

The gloves look like biting gloves to me. Find a glove pattern but just cut the fingers.
My Youtube account is CockatielPony. Go check it out i post stuff
