An animation cell of Fiver
« on: September 06, 2011, 12:02:15 AM »
I was searching through google for images of Dixie from Fox and the Hound when I came across a website full of productions cells and there was a section for Watership Down. However, this was the only one in the section.

This is where I found it if anyone's wondering: http://balto.rubberslug.com/gallery/master_query.asp?SeriesID=5419

Yep I've come across various cells for WSD.  I did it purposely to see what still existed or was known to still exist.  There aren't very many samples of cells out there sadly...and I've nothing on the tv series.  It might exist given the fact that archival has gotten a lot better than it was in the 1970s with independent productions, but until you see it, you never know what still exists, what was reused to save costs, etc.

I found a bunch by searching "Watership Down cells" on google. Didn't expect to find as many as there were.

That's a great still of Fiver - I really like the (in animation terms) extreme pose of it. Would be lovely to own that or another cell from this film!

Right now on Ebay if you type in Watership Down and go to collectibles, they have a LOT of animation cels. I have yet to get my hands on one yet, but I would love to get one of all the main characters together .

Yes, they're all over ebay but they're too expensive for me.

While there are thousands of animation cels used in a movie, the problem is those who have them not taking care of them. Line fading, being stuck to paper, etc can all easily happen if they aren't stored or displayed properly, which is why they are sometimes hard to find.

The more popular the character, the more expensive the cel is going to be. If it has a background, it's also worth a bunch. If you have a cel of a random background character, it probably won't be more than 50.

A popular character, or a group of characters will probably be 100-200. With background 200-400 is a good range.

The cels currently on eBay (search here) are overpriced in my opinion (especially the one with the background as it's not the original background)

I bought a group cel (actually 4 separate cels that all are from the same scene) in great condition of Hazel, Blackberry, Bigwig, and Fiver last year for 150.

I have a good friend who specializes in animation cels and drawings, and he's had a good selection of WSD ones :). But they are so expensive! I'd love one with ALL the characters, like when they overlook WSD when they reach the top :)

The first post has been killed by Photobucket :bigwig

I don't have any animation cels from Watership Down, and probably never will.  Judging by Regnant's post, they are already very expensive, and this will probably only get worse as the cels become rarer :(

OH wow I was looking at animation cels with my mom a week ago.  I checked eBay to see if anyone is selling them, but only saw sketches were being sold of keharr and Holly. Once I get a job I hope to be able to buy a few cels.
