Black Rabbit on the DVD boxset
« on: May 22, 2018, 04:37:21 PM »

(thanks to @Thlayli-rah for the picture :bigwig3 )

Does anyone have any idea who is the black rabbit in front of Primrose and Hawkbit?  It doesn't appear to match any character from the series...

That looks a whole lot like Blackavar, if Blackavar was literally black. No idea how he got on the cover, though, given his incredibly minor role in the series.

I decided to check, and sure enough, Blackavar has similar spectacled eyes, a similar tuft of fur on his head, and an identical patch of light fur running all the way down to his tail. Based on that and his posture, I'd say that this was a shoddy attempt to represent him. That or they had a different idea for how to represent Fiver or maybe Hawkbit, and it somehow got left in the art half-finished.

I didn't even notice that rabbit on the boxset when have seen it in the shops. Strange!! It looks like they just pasted him in as an after-thought. Like Hammy, a more 'accurate' Blackavar sprung to mind, but I also felt he looks like a black Hawkbit. :p Either way, it's a very odd addition.
Here lies a signature that has little point.

I always asked this myself. I think he looks a bit like Hawkbit just darker, but I guess this should be Blackavar. Or they simply put a Random-Bunny on the Box :‘D
Come to the dark side, we have hrair flayrah.

I thought it was one of the characters that appeared in either Season one or Season two.

I think it's supposed to be Hawkbit, that image is on one of my dvd's too, along with some other badly recoloured characters

I always wondered this, but I suppose it looks most like Hawkbit. It bugs me so much!

The ink of the box decolorizes Hawkbit in black XD
I'm tempted to buy this version of Watership down, although I have all 14 volumes ... I'm a WD addict

@SlyMeerkat the DVD boxset in the image in the first post does look incomplete; it looks much too thin to have all episodes.  There have been many incomplete VHS and DVD releases in North America, the UK, Germany, and maybe other countries too.

As far as I know, there have been only two complete DVD releases.  The first is this boxset, released in the UK in 2005:

It pops up on eBay and Amazon every once in a while, although it can be very expensive.

The second was released in Australia by Umbrella Entertainment, but is long out of print.

It has all of the episodes in the first image.
They are the same box sets.
