Who was the rabbit spirit at the end when Hazel dies?

Okay so this is something that always somewhat  confused me. When at the end of the movie, Hazel sees El Ahrairah. At one point when Hazel doesn't quite realize who it is who has come for him, the spirit transforms briefly into the spirit that Fiver saw when  Hazel was wounded,  and follows the spirit to the drainage hole.

Was that El Ahrairah in a different form? Or was it the Black Rabbit of Death?

In the book it is implied that it is El-ahairah, and not the Black Rabbit of Inle because he glowed a bit, which was explained in the story of the blessing of El-ahairah.
I am pretty sure that it was Inle in the movie because it credits the voice as "Black Rabbit" and the fact that it turns into the same thing that Fiver saw. He was just being less frightening than he is believed to be or something.

The Black Rabbit appeared frightening  I think in the opening sequence of the movie because it appeared Frith was trying to teach El Ahrairah a 'lesson' for disregarding him.  I do remember in the book it was described that the ears were shining 'silver' a bit and that was how Hazel knew who it was.

But that is what confused me. How could El Ahrairah be both at once. It was said in the movie in the opening " He had never before seen the Black Rabbit of Death" as the Black Rabbit was seperate entirely.

I think they just changed it from the book to the movie. It may have been too hard to show that it was El-ahairah and so they made it Inle instead?

Yeah that's probably it.  I just remember crying at that scene because it was so bittersweet. Hazel got to see the warren prosper, and it was his time to go, being old and tired. But knowing he went somewhere else for eternity was heartlifting.

I got confused also because in the intense sequence where the Bright Eyes song played ( another part of the movie that makes me cry) and Fiver sees the Black Rabbit with the glowing eyes...I thought, well if he's the rabbit of death,  is he leading  Fiver down there to where Hazel was so Hazel WOULDN'T 'die' and be rescued? In the book, the scene was far less powerful and moving, involving a man that Fiver dreamed of talking about ' the bloody hole.' I felt the movie really emphasized certain scenes in a way the book could not.

I've always seen the spirit at the end of the movie to be the Black Rabbit, not El-ahrairah.  I think he just changed forms not to spook Hazel--Hazel even had to ask who he was.

This scene I saw for the first time five years ago. I'm an adult and I see Hazel always accompany the El-ahrairah and die, I get very sad. It is a very beautiful scene that really brings me happiness and melancholy at the same time.
It breaks my heart and again filled with joy ...

It is that besides being wonderful scenes, these are very powerful messages of perseverance and hope. The music, the characters are all perfect in his narrative to make a great moments we will never forget ever. And so it's worth seeing.    

“All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.”

I like to think that the movie was implying that Elahrairah and Inle were infact the same rabbit all along. This rabbit symbolizes that life can't exist without death and death can't exist without life. And the characters Elahrairah and Inle are just the rabbits way of comprehending that.

Or maybe Elahrairah was just trolling Hazel.

I believe it's El-ahairah especially due to the fact that he asks if Hazel will join his Owsla. The Black Rabbit is a lone rabbit and doesn't have an Owsla, but El-ahairah does
