Not only the book appears in the series Lost. The mystery series has more similarities with Watership Down. Also the characters are comparable partly with Richard Adams' novel. A complete overview of the common features of Watership Down and Lost can be found on HighLonelyHills.com.

Let's discuss here the things, Lost shares with Watership Down.

"Live together, die alone" figures in Lost as well as in Watership Down.

It does? When was it said in Watership Down?

Jack Shepard is the leader and most likely comparable with Hazel.

Charlie Pace comes closest to Hawkbit with his sarcastic kind.

Kate could be compared with Primrose through her binding to Jack, in my opinion.

Hurley Reyes shows (especially visually) similarities with Strawberry of the series.

Benjamin Linus lulls his followers to bring them to heel. Of course, this is best comparable with Cowslip.

Desmond Hume has visions, similar to Fiver.

Walt Lloyd could read minds by touching other persons. He's similar with Silverwed of the series.

I think it would be a good thing to elaborate on those points (or at least on some of them), because in this current form similarities between characters seems to be only skin deep. For example, here Kate and Primrose are similar because they both are girlfriends to leaders and not because they share some similarities of personality or backstory. If we reduce our comparison of them to their love life, then they are similar with thousands characters from other books/movies/etc. Likewise, if we reduce Hurley's and Strawberry's similarity to both of them being plump (which isn't a very unique characteristic), then they share it with other overweight characters. If we limit ourselves to only skin-deep similarities, then we can use almost any other book to show common qualities between it and Lost.

I'm really sorry, that I've forgotten to answer you post, Myrkin :(

I'm developing the theories (or rather the similarities) and establish a discussion and then, I forget to reply :vervain-facepalm

Maybe, it wasn't really said (but I think, I've read something like that in the book). But, in the tv-series, this behavior can be seen. When Holly is calling for Bigwig, he thinks, it's the Black Rabbit. He wants to face him alone, because he thinks, the BR would take also the others, when they face it. Campion also wants to stay away from Blackberry, because he was touched by the BR (ok, not exactely the same, but I hope, you understand, what I mean).

To be honest, these similarities are really only superficial. I watched Lost with the thought at the back of my mind, that Lost has similarities to Watership Down. Then, I've seen the characters and had to thought about the characters in Watership Down. And I needed to write it down (before I forget it :D ).

This may be an unimportant fun fact (I didn't mention on my website), but in Lost, we have a character, calles Locke. And we all now, that Richard Adams had written our beloved novel.

Just Google "Richard Adams Locke" :D

That's quite funny.  You can find really interesting stuff on the Internet. :)
