What is Twokinds? It's a web-comic made by Tom Fischbach and set in fairly typical fantasy world of magic and swords. The difference is, instead of elves, dwarves and orcs we have several races of anthropomorphic animals (called Keidrans here) and instead of humans we have... well... humans. In this world, tensions between humans and Keidrans are high and it can take little to turn mutual mistrust and prejudices into a full-blown war.

Enter our hero, Trace, who has a case of amnesia so severe, that at the start of the story he even needs to learn his own name. He befriends a female tiger called Flora, not realizing (because of losing his memories) how much their friendship is uncommon, since most relationships between human and Keidran are at best master-slave or enemy-enemy at worst. I will not spoil anything by saying their friendship will be put to the test, especially with coming war.

I like this comic for many things. It's got multiple interesting characters. The plot isn't about cliché conflict between Good™ and Evil™. In this story neither side of human-animal conflict is completely saint or villainous. There is also a twist concerning one of the antagonists. ;)

In addition, I admire how much the comic has improved in terms of visuals over the 12 years of its run. Just take a look at page from beginning parts of the story and compare it with one page from more recent chapters:

Ah, yes. She is so cute you can get diabetes from just looking at her chomping on tails. :D

There are a few other cute characters. For example, Mrs Nibbly:

I've just bought digital version of "The Dragon Masquarade" - a prequel story to the main comics. I hope it will be as good as the rest of TwoKinds. :)

I thought it was a great story. And it's full of little Easter egg appearances.

Like Trace and Sirus, the master spy:

(He's my favorite human character in the comic)

Maeve and Roselyn are best!

It was quite enjoyable story. Things ended mostly well for Natani and Zen. Meanwhile, Lady Nora showed again and again that she likes changing other peoples' gender. Hopefully, Prince Clovis will use his newly gained perspective to learns some much needed lessons. ;)

I've been looking for a topic like this all weekend. I read the entire ninehundredsomething pages of Twokinds yesterday and I really like it. It's a pretty good webcomic and I can't wait for more. I just wish the author would update it more. Wait, did I just resurrect this post?

Heh. :D I know what it's like, Strifer. When I discover a long running webcomic I come to love, this is usually what happens:

"What is this? It seems interesting."

A few hours later...

"Okay. I've read hundreds of pages. What time is it? It's a night?!"

"..."

"Oww... I'm young. I can read a few more before sleep."

A couple of days later....

"It's getting better and bet... What?! There are no more pages?! I have to wait till next week?!!!"

I seem to have found the meaning of Maeve's name!
Apparently Maeve originated in Ireland and basically means "she who intoxicates". A pretty good name for any girl in my opinion.
