Probably the most underused of all the main characters on the series (although, that would change during the final season).

When the series was first released, many fans of both the books and the original movie were disappointing -and even visibly annoyed- by the fact the fact that her gender was changed from buck to doe just to have a strong female character in the series (guess Hannah doesn't count, then). And, for the first four or five episodes, she really left a good impression to delete all those negative comments, showcasing an interesting character with a lot to offer. After that, though... the character as a whole started a dive-bomber maneuver that had her as some sort of glorified background character for most of the episodes, only intervening when the situation called for a reunion or some kind of group conversation. I don't understand why, to be honest.

Like I said before, this would revert in Season 3, but for the remaining of the series, she was almost invisible (and the situation became more and more evident with the addition of Clover, Primrose, Marigold and some other female leads to the series).

There was definitely some wasted potential here.

It is true that many complain about the sex change of Blackberry, but I do not bother because it is still an interesting character. Its main function is to be a counselor of Hazel when the need for complicated issues and need brain.
He could create another female character, but the writers opted for Blackberry Doe.
However I agree that might have greater participation in the series.   :blackberry

Of course, there was wasted potential. Nevertheless, I liked Blackberry very much in the series. She's a strong character - especially in the third season and she's very likeable!

Yes, the could have done more with her and the relationship between her and Campion was rushed. But I think, she was a great, but untended character in the series  :blackberry4

STUPID ZETABOARDS ONLY ALLOWS 10 EMOTICONS PER POST!  I will have to slip this in several posts.

:blackberry is perhaps the most controversial character of the series.  But to me, the original, male Blackberry was an ordinary character.  I didn't dislike him, but I didn't particularely like him either.

The series :blackberry2 , meanwhile, I find her to be an intersting character.  Warning this might be a long post...

Her first major role, when she uses the piece of wood to get :fiver2 and :pipkin across the river, is pretty much like the book, except that she seems to have the idea to use it before she even realizes it is there.  That makes her even more smart than the original male Blackberry.

The next role is the digging plot, which can't help but remind me of this silent film.  This is an occasion for some interesting character development and cements her role as a strong female character.

Then the warren is dug and she gets somewhat forgotten for a few episodes until the escape from Efrafa, where she uses the boat again.  Once again, it's pretty much like the book except that she doesn't need Bluebell to suggest being a water rabbit to understand that the boat is the way out.  Unfortunately, her important contribution to the plan is overshadowed by the more exciting stuff happening around the same time, and the romance between :hazel2 and :primrose .

Then she wants fresh bedding in The Vision and :bigwig3 accuses her of being a tyrant.  Clearly she never rests.  Also she comes to :fiver3 's defense when :hawkbit2 accuses him of being a curse on the warren.  That's rather nice.

PART 2

Then, if I remember correctly, she doesn't really do anything important until The Invasion, where :sarcasm we find that she is so smart that she can teleport herself from one burrow to another.  That is a really useful trick.   Too bad she doesn't use it to teleport :silverweed3 out of Darkhaven. :sarcasm

Apart from that, in season 2, if I remember correctly, the only other thing she is seen doing is teaching kittens about plants.  Weird, considering she isn't their mother.

And now, we get to the really interesting stuf, The Homecoming, and the romance with :campion .  There is the usual love at first sight thing, which has been used for pretty much every couple in the series except :hickory2 and :marigold2 , who were already mates when they were first seen.  Still, it might have been interesting if she had shown up at a few of the meetings with him over the previous episodes.  But even then, it wasn't as rushed as :hazel and :primrose , and it is also interesting because, well, :campion2 is still a member of the enemy.

PART 3

For the next few episodes, she seems to be digging and doing other things to keep her mind off :campion .  That makes sense, she always seemed to love digging.  At least gets a break from these sad thoughts when :bark carries :fiver back to the Down.

Then in The Secret of Redstone Warren (I think), :woundwort saves her from the poacher by getting him and :vervain-facepalm caught in the trap.  Turns out :woundwort2 can do some good things if you give him a chance.  Poor :vervain2 .

Finally, the part of the series where she really has an important role, starting with her capture by :spartina when she was searching for :campion2 with :primrose .  It's nice to have :blackberry3 and :primrose share a scene, being the two most important female characters of the series (among the rabbits, anyway) and having been modified from their book counterparts more than any other characters.

PART 4

Once in Darkhaven, Blackberry seems to divide her time between the :speaker-of-the-past and :campion .  The :speaker-of-the-past is another interesting character, but let's leave that for another thread, shall we?  As for :campion2 , well, it's rather dangerous, with everyone watching?  But really, :campion isn't much more careful either.

The scene where she heals :granite really provides a lot of character development, shoing that she cares for all rabbits, even the enemy.  This also helps show that :granite isn't really as bad as most of the Darkhaveners, as will be seen later on.

The scene where she is sentenced to death by crushing is perhaps one of the scariest of the series because, well, crushing.  That is perhaps the most painful death any of the characters could suffer in the series.  Sure, she gets rescued by :campion who then falls from a great height without being incapacitated for the rest of the day like in Friend and Enemy :vervain-facepalm

Another interesting thing is that when :woundwort3 orders a patrol to be sent to find :silverweed while he punishes :vervain2 , :blackberry is one of the rabbits who leave, despite being a prisoner.  This both shows that maybe she would be good in the owsla if :bigwig gave her a chance and that :woundwort2 is just so angry at :vervain .

LAST PART

Then she gets sentenced to death again, rescued again, harassed by :vervain2 who gets kicked into the bushes by :spartina .  Nothing really interesting, apart from a bit of character development for :spartina (but let's leave that for another thread) and the fact that :vervain can really defeat nobody.

One last thing.  When she leaves Darkhaven, she says that she hopes the elil will kill all the Darkhaveners and says that her stay in a place like that changed her.  However, it seems it didn't really affect her sweet nature because in the last episode, she gets another scene with :primrose where she says that :pipkin :gilia :snowdrop :mallow should be in charge.

Overall, :blackberry2 is really one of my favourite characters of the series.  It's a shame she did so little in season 2.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I really like :blackberry3 and really wanted to do a thorough analysis of her.

That's pretty good wall of text, Chipster-roo. Don't hesitate to make more of them. ;)

There is also an option of just writing the name of character, you know. :D
